Fundraising Update – Seating Phase 2 of 3

Many thanks indeed for all your pledges towards the procurement of the additional seats. The offer has now closed and the fantastic news is that we’ve managed to hit the target of £38,300 just ahead of deadline with a few 11th hour pledges! This continues the amazing achievement of the fans hitting every single fundraising target which has been put before them.

Hitting the target means that we can soon trigger the collection of the pledges and this will take place in approximately in 7 days. Those that have made pledges have been contacted individually.

Once we have collected in all of the funds, we will notify the Football Club so that the order for the seats can be placed; so the sooner we have the funds the sooner we can get them ordered and in situ to improve the matchday experience at Blackwell Meadows.

If everything goes to plan, the seats should be installed in time for use at the match against York City on Saturday 6 January 2018.

By hitting the Community Share target it also means that the £5,551 collected via the Ground Development fund can be rolled forwards to the next phase of development which will be for the roof - which once finalised will mean that Blackwell Meadows will satisfy the ground grading criteria for promotion to the National League - a great starting point!

Thanks again for your tremendous support.

Changes in the DFCSG Board

The DFCSG board last week regretfully accepted Wayne Raper’s notice to step down as both Chair and board member of the Darlington Football Club Supporters Group with immediate effect due to work commitments. We want to place on record our thanks to Wayne and acknowledge all that he achieved in his time leading DFCSG.

Wayne joined the DFCSG board in November 2015 and shortly afterwards stepped up to be the new Chair. Over his time as Chair the DFCSG has seen:

  • Membership numbers more than double to over 1,000;
  • £280,000+ raised through the online fundraising platform and community shares;
  • Additional membership benefits secured with both local & national companies;
  • Introduction of GoCardless, which has revolutionised the way members can renew/join DFCSG, join the lottery, community shares, etc;
  • Online season ticket & match day ticket sales introduced;
  • The club successfully complete its move back to Darlo - in no small part due to the efforts & leadership of Wayne.

Wayne leaves the DFCSG in a much better position than when he joined the board 2 years ago and as a dedicated, professional and innovative leader he will be greatly missed.

We plan to appoint a new Chair at the AGM in November and in the interim Vice-Chair Joanne Cameron will lead the board.

Update on the Programme Kiosk

We had more downpours during the Leamington and South Shields matches, further emphasising the need for the kiosk outside the home turnstiles from which our volunteers will be able to sell programmes, 50:50 tickets and occasional match ticket collections. We have placed the order for the kiosk and we expect that it will be in place by the end of this month.

One of the many responders to our appeal for help to pave the grassed area on which the kiosk will stand was Dean Blackbourn, a Darlo fan that works for Northumbrian Water. Dean came forward with a fantastic offer of a team of four from Northumbrian Water that included a time served paver.

Northumbrian Water encourages their employees to support community and charitable organisations through their employee volunteering scheme ‘Just an hour’. This scheme allows employees to give a minimum of 15 hours every year to support causes close to their hearts.

Since the launch of Just an hour in 2002, Northumbrian Water employees have given over 100,000 hours in support of the communities we serve, something Northumbrian Water are very proud of.

Last year 52% of Northumbrian Water employees participated in Just an hour taking using their wealth of knowledge, skills and expertise to benefit their local communities. Their employees often find opportunities that Just an hour allow them to learn new skills and can increase their confidence.

Northumbrian Water are always looking for new projects to support, so if you know of a project within their service area that could benefit from Just an hour, you can visit their website where you will be asked to complete a short application form:

Revised Fundraising Target

The boards of Darlington Football Club and Darlington FC Supporters Group have considered how the fundraising push is currently going and as a result have decided that the priority should be to direct the current fundraising round to purchasing and installing the seats, rather than the structural steel and cladding, which had been the original plan.

Installing the seats, albeit without a roof initially, would help to improve the match-day experience and in particular make it more attractive for young families to attend. The provision of the seats will be an immediate and lasting asset to the football club. Once this target is reached we will immediately open the final round of fundraising for the purchase & installation of a roof over the new stand.

The good news is that the total cost of providing the seats without the roof is only £38,300.

To put this in context, the Community Share pledges for seating phase 2 currently stands at £27,575;

The current total in the Ground Development Fund is £3,523;

Therefore the remainder we need to raise is only £7,202.

This is definitely achievable by a number of ways:

Supporters can pledge to the successful Community Share scheme (minimum investment ?100); or donate to the Ground Development Fund. Details can be found on the DFCSG fundraising platform at:

However, there is also another way. So far 886 DFCSG members have renewed their membership for this season, leaving 258 members still to renew; If each member renewed, DFCSG would be able to donate another £5,160 directly to Ground Development Fund;

Similarly, every 40 new members that sign-up to DFCSG would generate another £1,000 for the Ground Development fund.

For any DFCSG member that wishes to renew, details are on the webpage:

For any supporter that wishes to join DFCSG, details are on the webpage:

Any supporter that joins or renews their DFCSG membership not only receives all the benefits of membership but they would be contributing directly towards the fundraising target.

If you prefer the more traditional ways of paying for any of the above initiatives, pop into Quaker Retail in the Dolphin Centre any weekday between 10am and 1pm and you will be assured of a warm welcome from our volunteers.

Reaching the fundraising target by the end of September means the seats potentially could be installed and ready for use for the match against York City on January 6th.

Come on Darlo fans, we can do this!

The DFCSG - strengthening the roots of our club

The DFCSG created and manage the B2D fund, which is funding available to help establish the Club back in Darlington. The fund acts as the primary collection pot for monies raised from direct donations and events organised by the DFCSG Fundraising Group.

Of course, there are many ways in which you can help the club directly but, if you’re specifically looking for a quick and easy way to support the establishment of a solid foundation for the Club in its new home, then it only takes a few minutes to set up a one-off or regular donation to the B2D Fund either by your online or high street banking service.

For monthly standing orders or a one off donation please send monies to the following account:

“Darlington FC Supporters Group”
Lloyds Bank
Sort code: 30-84-43
Account No: 30283268

To pay by cheque please make cheque payable to
“Darlington FC Supporters Group” and send to

Darlington FC Supporters Group
c/o Blackwell Meadows
Grange Road
County Durham

Please quote your name in the reference area when using internet banking and, on the back of your cheque, include your name and address.

Remember there are many ways to help the Club… can you think of any more? Please tell us about it either by email or in person at the Fans Table in the bar at all home games.

  • Buying a Season Ticket helps to provide the Manager with additional funding needed to strengthen the team at the start of each new season
  • Attending matches provides the club with a constant stream of money throughout the season, from additional match-day ticket sales and revenues from catering and other sales (e.g. programme sales, match-day raffle tickets, 50:50 match-day draw, Club merchandise).
  • The Come On Darlo Prediction League is a fun way to add a little bit of an edge to your season - use your skill and judgement to predict how we and the other local clubs will do in the coming season, and who will be the big winners and losers nationally, come the end of the season.
  • The Sponsor a Goal scheme is a fan-run initiative which has raised over £8000 for the Club since it began in season 2012-13.
  • For as little as £5/month the DFC Fans Lottery Draw provides you with the chance to win either £50 in each weekly draw, or even more in the monthly Super Draw. The Lottery has raised more than £10,000 for the Club over the past 12 months.
  • The Fundraising Group runs a series of entertainment fundraising events over the year, the proceeds of which go into the B2D fund.
The Darlington FC Supporters Group (DFCSG) was established on April 10th 2015 with the merger of the CIC, Supporters Club and Supporters Trust. Darlington FC Supporters Group holds approximately 62% of the equity of Darlington Football Club and is therefore the major shareholder as well as being the Corporate Director of Darlington Football Club 1883 Ltd.
